TIRE SIZE – READING SIDEWALL MARKINGS – Metric

Metric Tire Size

In this case, the image above highlights the metric tire size of a tire. Most tires will indicate the size on the sidewall in the following order:

  • Tire Width - 215 mm in this example
  • Aspect Ratio - sidewall height, 60 in this example
  • Rim Diameter - 16” in this example

Also known as High-Flotation / Wide Base / Numeric Sizing

Standard Tire Size

As highlighted in the image above, standard tires will indicate the standard tire size. The tire size markings on the sidewall are as follows:

  • Overall Diameter height in inches - 35” in this example
  • Section Width in inches - 12.5” or 1250 in this example
  • Rim Diameter in inches - 17” in this example
